SGT R4 Sugo

It was a crazy weekend in Sugo with weather and track conditions changing all the time. Since there is a tire war going on, the performances of the cars depended more than usual on their tires. For example when there is heavy rain our Yokohama tires can compete for Pole Position, but when it is only damp it is the opposite. Unfortunately Qualifying was damp, hence we managed only P15.

My teammate Daiki took the start for the first time and had a nightmare stint to deal with. He started on slicks and in the formation lap it started to rain. We chose to stay out on slicks as half the field opted to pit for wets. We dropped down to P23 or something when it dried out again. Daiki did an incredible job keeping the car on the track, and this paid off when everybody had to pit again for slicks. We moved up to P7 and had a very good race pace.

I took over and after only 3 laps into my stint, it started to rain again! I had to pit for wet tires, as most did, but after a few laps it dried out again. I had to finish the race under those conditions which was difficult as our performance under those particular conditions (like qualifying) is poor. I managed to bring the car home in P10 and at least got 1 point. The good news was our race pace in dry conditions. That gives us great confidence for the upcoming race in Fuji.

At the last race in Fuji we almost made it to the podium, so this time the podium is a clear target.
