SGT R7 Thailand

It was a long trip to Thailand from Europe, but a trip very much worthwhile as it resulted in my first podium finish with P2 since I joined Kondo Racing and Yokohama. The brand new circuit suited the Nissan GTR's very well and Daiki almost managed to put our car on Pole Position. Yokohama did their homework very well and we definitely had the fastest car out there. But to win a race one needs luck also. Here is what happened..

I took the start and settled in behind my long time friend and rival Motoyama. We enjoyed our battle through traffic and we pulled 17 seconds away from the rest of the field after about 25 laps.

At around that time I decided to up the pace and go for an attack. I closed right down to Motoyama and as it was brutally hot in the car I was also speculating on a mistake of his. Of course he didn't make a single one! His speed and race craft is still unchanged. Unfortunately my attack was soon halted by shift trouble and that ended all hopes for us.

I was stuck in 2nd gear for half a lap and dropped down to 4th before the gearbox decided it would function again. That was extremely lucky for us. We immediately made our pitstop and Daiki then drove the race of his life to finish in P2. 2 more laps and we win the race!

We were of course happy to finish on the podium but at the same time when you know you have the fastest car out there, you naturally want to win. Chances like this don't come around every weekend for us.

Nevertheless a successful weekend and I want to thank all our japanese supporters that were cheering us on from Japan. We will try to continue our good form and hopefully have a similar performance in Motegi.
